The number of candidates who appeared in the exam.
The difficulty level of the UGC NET 2024 question paper.
Previous year UGC NET cut off trends.
To calculate the UGC NET 2024 cut off marks, the National Testing Agency follows the following steps. The detailed procedure for the calculation of cut off marks of UGC NET 2024 is shared below:
Step 1: Total number of qualified candidates in the exam shall be equal to 6% of the candidates who appeared in both papers of the exam.
Step 2: Total number of slots allocated to candidates belonging to different categories as per the reservation policy of the Government of India.
Step 3: Minimum marks required by candidates to score to be considered for Junior Research Fellow and/or eligibility for Assistant Professor are mentioned in the table given below:
Category | Minimum Marks (%) to be Scored
Paper I | Paper-II | |
General | 40% Marks in both the papers taken together
OBC / SC/ ST | 35% Marks in both the papers taken together |
Step 4: Qualifying factors for candidates who qualify in UGC NET will be based on their category for each subject. The aggregate percentage secured by candidates in both papers corresponding to the number of slots will determine the qualifying cut-off.
Step 5: Total number of slots available for awarding Junior Research Fellows is allocated among different categories as per reservation policy.
Those candidates will qualify in the exam who score the minimum UGC NET 2024 cut off marks. These cut off marks must be apart from scoring the minimum qualifying marks of the UGC NET 2024 exam. The National Testing Agency releases the category-wise cut off of UGC NET 2024 in PDF format for each subject for which the candidates have appeared.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) shortlists 6% of candidates in each subject to prepare a merit list for determining the eligibility for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) prepares a separate merit list for candidates who have qualified for the UGC NET Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). This will be calculated after considering their eligibility in terms of age.
